All year long, no one celebrates our victories or softens our troubles quite like mom. This year in particular, moms have had the flexibility of master trapeze artists while work-life, home-life, home-schooling, and whatever else in between became melded into one messy, boundary-less blob. They handled it with the grace and efficiency that moms are known best for, and with Annapolis reawakening in time for Spring weather, we can finally thank her with the 5-star treatment she deserves. Here are some inspiring ideas of how to treat mom to a special day!

One thing Annapolis has no shortage of is coffee shops. Through the year, some classics endured and new talent emerged. Artsy 49 West Coffee Shop Annapolis, often referred to as “the living room of Annapolis” is a great place to catch some jazzy or classical live music while enjoying breakfast, a coffee, or pastry. Paintings by local artists often hang on the wall and the atmosphere is European and relaxed. Just down the street, a newly opened industrial space bathed in natural light called CURATE Coffee Collective has lots of fresh options and pretty pastries to enjoy.

For more of a to-go option, try Rise Up Coffee Parole Town Center in Parole Town Center or Black Market Bakers.

Shopping on Maryland Ave and Main Street

Once you’re well caffeinated with a little sugar buzz, there’s no better to place to burn the energy than a shopping excursion on Maryland Ave and Main Street in Downtown Annapolis. Maryland Ave boasts the title of the oldest boutique shopping district in the country, but you can always find styles that are fresh and new. If you start at the majestic State House and work your way towards the water, you can find a funky new coffee mug at Annapolis Pottery or browse the incredible artworks of the Maryland Federation of Art Gallery. At the top of Maryland Ave, you’re greeted by the bright colors of Mango + Main, a carefully curated collection of handmade fair trade goods from around the world. The shop is such a treasure it was recently featured in Souther Living magazine as one of the “South’s Best Boutiques!”

If you’re someone who can get lost down the aisles of a bookstore, Annapolis has some great ones along this route, including Old Fox Books and Back Creek Books on Main Street. As you near the water, you’ll come across even more boutiques with character including Hobo’s flagship location— a perfect place to peruse a new bag for your excursions back out into the world! For mystical moms, be sure to check out the “Written in the Stars” horoscope line of clip pouches. Lilac Bijoux is a mainstay of Annapolis shopping, known for their elegant jewelry and bright, comfortable sundresses that can be mom’s go-to for easy summer fashion. Amongst its great accessories and clothing items, Brightside Boutique has gift items that are sure to make mom smile.

For the foodie mom, check out Annabeth’s specialty grocer– they even have Mother’s Day baskets for a tasty sampler of offerings. And if you’re up for a good treasure hunt, Evergreen Antiques & True Vintage is sure to please with their selection of vintage artifacts including art, furniture, home goods, clothing, and accessories.

Great dining experiences across Downtown Annapolis

Now that you’ve shopped ’til you’re ready to drop (or at least maybe you should sit down for a while) enjoy a late lunch at any of the great dining experiences across the city. For fresh, small plate delicacies, try Level, Preserve, or Sailor Oyster Bar. Each of these restaurants has their own distinct flavor and vibe and are celebrated for their creative signature cocktails. For a laid-back pub feel, try a flavorful pizza and craft beer at Fox’s Den or a famous rueben and pint at Galway Bay. For a savory meal with Asian flair, check out Joss Sushi, Tsunami, or Lemongrass. One silver lining from the past year has been the mass expansion of outdoor dining, so you can enjoy your meal in the sunshine!

After all that great food, if you have any room left for something sweet there is nothing quite as fitting for a stroll downtown than getting ice cream. Annapolis Ice Cream has a wall of flavors that–no matter how long you contemplate–will always leave you wanting to come back and try more. There is also The Red Bean which has some amazing milkshakes and great coffee if you like a late-afternoon pick-me-up, and the classic Storm Brothers Ice Cream at the City Dock Harbor.

Overwhelmed by all the great Annapolis restaurant choices? Give mom a sampling of gift cards as a plan for future dates out together. For other memorable gift ideas, check out Circle Creatives Annapolis between 10am-2pm on Saturday May 8th for their Mother’s Day celebration. Blake Evans Photography is hosting mini photoshoots and Season to Season Horticultre is doing planted arrangements on site, so bring your own pot! Local artists like Kim Hovell, Hey Farah, LBo Craft, The Drifted Knot, and more will have special handmade wares to suit any mom’s style.

With all there is to do in Annapolis, mom is sure to have a fun day enjoying the fruits of her labor. A very Happy Mother’s Day from our family to Mom.
